Welcome
Marples Family Website Mission
Welcome to the Marples Family Worldwide Website. The purpose of this
website is to promote pride in our Marples family heritage and encourage our
families to share this history with their children. It is also an opportunity
to share family photos and stories with each other across international
boundaries.

Marples Family Origins
It is believed that the name Marples with the "s" came into being when the
parish scribes wrote in the parish register with their flourishing script. The
ending "e" in Marple many times ended in a flourishing cursive which resembled
an "s" and later was interpreted as such and the name became Marples. There
are records of people being baptized as a Marple without the "s" and later
being recorded in their death certificate as Marples with the "s,"
- My great grandfather Thomas and his family emigrated to the
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA) area in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
They left Liverpool by ship and settled in Philadelphia. They formed family
groups in Philadelphia (PA), Camden (NJ), Pensgrove (NJ), Carneys Point (NJ)
and other points south in New Jersey.
-
- Other groups of the Marples family and Marple family (unrelated) already
in America moved west and formed family groups in the Kansas and Kentucky
areas. Still another group moved further west and formed family groups in
northern California and Oregon.
-
- It has been suggested but not confirmed that the male leader of the
Oregon Trail was married to a Marples.
-
- Phone listings determined from search engines confirm these family
groups in areas of New Jersey, Kentucky, Kansas, Oregon and California
in the US. In addition to the UK, there are significant groups according the
phone listings in Canada and Australia.
